Your birthing space is sacred. It should be respected at all times, by all who enter it.
Birth is incredible and challenging. It doesn't matter if you give birth vaginally or by cesarean. Epidural or no epidural you will experience a wide array of emotions. It is one of the most intense human experiences there is.
The people and the things you allow into your space during this time can have either a positive or a negative impact on the experience. A harsh light cast at the wrong moment, a loud unhelpful voice, a well meaning hand touching you the wrong way can all carry you away from the primal state of mind that you need to be in.
Soft encouraging words, the right pressure on your hips, a meaningful connection can all help lull you into the deep state of relaxation you need to transcend into your primal state of mind.
A doula is trained to ensure your birth place stays as calm, peaceful and relaxing as possible. She is there to help you physically as well emotionally. Women supporting other women through child birth is a centuries old practice with proven benefits. Before it became commonplace for fathers to be in attendance women would give birth surrounded by other women. One mother supporting another mother through an experience that only mothers could understand.
my passion is to provide each and every one of my clients with the most encouraging, uplifting care that I can. I will take the time to get to know you throughout your pregnancy. Doula care is not one size fits all. The care you need during labor is as unique as you are. I want to provide you with the support and comfort measures that work the best for who you are.
My job is not to replace your partner or step into their role. My job is to support both of you. When your partner needs to use the restroom or eat I'm there for you. As your partner is holding you and comforting you I am keeping you both hydrated and keeping your space as calm and comfortable as possible. When labor is at its most intense state you will have two sets of hands to support and encourage you.
During your prenatal appointments I will spend time getting to know you, answering all of your questions, getting familiar with your birth plans and teaching you and your partner about various comfort measures.
At your post natal appointments I will bring you a nourishing meal and chat with you about your birth and how you are feeling. I will listen to you without judgement or opinion. I will leave you with all the tools and resources that you need from a lactation consultant to a pelvic floor therapist. I will continue to offer my support for many months postpartum.
